Australian Chris Taylor leads the PGA Legends Tour Order of Merit (OOM) following a couple of victories midway through the New Zealand stretch of senior events.

Taylor sits atop the OOM with $6,935.91 AUD after four events where he won the MWSS Legends Pro-Am at Muriwai Golf Club on Sunday before another win at the Expol Waihi Legends Pro-Am yesterday. He’ll be a heavy favourite entering the Hanmer Springs Thermal Pools NZPGA Seniors Championship, which begins tomorrow.

His win at Muriwai just under a week ago came in typical blustery conditions on the West Coast course, shooting an impressive five-under-67 to win by four strokes. His round included four birdies, an eagle, and a bogey, which was good enough to finish well clear of his countryman Murray Lott, Bradley Burns, and Ben Jackson.

The Pro-Am raised money for the Muriwai Volunteers Firefighter Brigade.

Taylor's success continued late into the week with another victory in Waihi yesterday, where he shot a six-under-66 to win by three.

He made five birdies, an eagle, and a bogey en route to his impressive score in the calm East Coast beach conditions, once again finishing ahead of Bradley Bruns who had to settle for second.

Burns’s scorecard was colourful – he made four birdies, two eagles, and five bogeys.

Sitting in second behind Taylor on the PGA Legends OOM is PGA of New Zealand member, Peter Fowler.

Fowler recorded a victory in tricky conditions at the Ricoh Legends Pro-Am held at Royal Auckland and Grange Gold Club on Tuesday, where he shot a three-under-69 on the composite course.

The well-known senior player nicknamed ‘Chookie’ was one of three players to shoot under par, making six birdies, a bogey, and a double on his way to shooting the only score in the 60’s. Australian Scott Ford and Kiwi Richard Lee shot rounds of 71.

The tournament raised money for the Fred Hollows Foundation, which is striving to end avoidable blindness in the Pacific.
