Ryan Fox has returned to the DP World Tour in style, finishing just shy of a Horizon Irish Open title for the third time in his career.
The big-hitting Kiwi finished in a share of third two shots behind Sweden’s Vincent Norrman, who won his second DP World Title in his 14th appearance. Fox shot 71, 69, 66, and 70 at The K Club in his first event since the 3M Open on the PGA Tour in July.
Although he finished two shots behind Norrman, Fox held a share of the lead midway through his final round after going out in three under. Unfortunately, he left a birdie putt just short on the 16th, which would have tied the lead again and bogeyed the 17th, meaning he needed an eagle up the par 5 18th to tie Norrman, who posted the clubhouse lead earlier after shooting the round of the day.
A victory at the Irish Open is looming for our top-ranked Kiwi – he finished runner-up at last year’s tournament to Adrian Meronk and lost in a playoff to Russell Knox in 2018.
Daniel Hillier finished two strokes behind Fox to finish just outside the top 10 in a share of 12th. He carded rounds of 68, 71, 70, and 69.
Fox moves up to 30th in the Race to Dubai Rankings while Hillier falls a spot into 21st.
Meanwhile, Kiwi amateur and Eisenhower representative Sam Jones is off to a great start at the US Mid-Amateur in New York.
Jones carded an opening round of three-under 68 at Sleepy Hollow Country Club to sit in a share of third and is yet to tee off his second round at Fenway Golf Club after play was suspended due to darkness.
Jones finished as the co-medallist last year before bowing out in the round of 32.
He currently shares sixth.
On the LPGA Tour, Lydia Ko has finished in a share of 41st at the Kroger Queen City Championship, her best finish since the US Women’s Open in June.
Ko finished three under for the tournament following rounds of 68, 73, and consecutive 72s to finish.

In China, Kieran Muir has finished in a tie for 13th at the Guotai Open, shooting three rounds of 72 and a 71 to finish one-under-par.
Meanwhile, Michael Long finished inside the top 15 at the WCM Legends Open de France, shooting 72, 69, and 70 to finish two-under-par. Michael Campbell finished in a tie for 29th at four-over.
On the Clutch Pro Tour, James Hydes finished in a tie for 22nd at Heythrop Park at four-under, while Henry Spring missed the cut.
Amelia Garvey finished in equal 38th at the Black Desert Resort Championship on the Epson Tour, firing 71 and consecutive 69s to finish seven-under-par.
On the Ladies European Tour, Wenyung Keh finished in a tie for 50th at the Big Green Egg Open, while Hanee Song missed the cut.
Finally, David Smail finished in a share of 58th at the Komatsu Open in his return to the Japanese Senior Tour after a break. He finished one-over following round of 73, and two 72s.
