Ryan Fox has claimed his 3rd title in as many starts with a hard fought 2 under par round of 70 to hold of the gritty Josh Geary by a shot.
The final round provided the two overnight frontrunners with a sterner challenge than the previous two days, with both players battling firm slick greens that were beautifully prepared by the Greens Staff at Wairakei Golf and Sanctuary. Both players stayed in the hunt for the title throughout the round, with Fox matching his four birdies with four bogeys, but an eagle on the Par 5 1st Hole proved the difference.
Geary put together a bogey free round, and although he created many chances, his two birdies were one short.
The days big mover was the soon to depart Daniel Hiller, who is heading over to Europe to play a number of events on the Challenge Tour. Finishing 3rd, Hillier, who started from the 9th Hole made birdies on 11, 13 and 14 before making the turn and make three on the bounce, Holes 1, 2 and 3. They were followed by his only bogey on the tricky short Par 4 4th Hole, before a final birdie on the downhill 7th.
Other notable final round scores were 68’s by Kieran Muir (4th) and Jordan Loof (T6th); 69’s by Gareth Paddison (5th), Pieter Zwart (T6th) and Fraser Wilkin (19)
Once again, Pacific Golf Management put on a great event for the Professionals and Amateurs. PGA of NZ members Richard Ellis and Marcus Menara do a sterling job running these events.
The players attentions now move on to the PGA’s flagship event at Te Puke Golf in the Bay of Plenty, the 2021 New Zealand PGA Championship. This years event will feature many of New Zealand’s leading Tour Players and invited Elite Amateurs, but significantly will see a large number of the PGA’s Vocational members tee it up. It will provide a great chance for our hardworking Club Professionals to test themselves against the best players. Sky Sport will provide live coverage of the final hours of Saturday and Sunday’s play.
