I first met Paul when he was one of NZ’s leading amateurs in the 1970’s.
1978/79 – North Island Amateur champion
1980 – NZ Amateur champion
1981 - NZ Amateur Foursomes champion with Geoff Clarke
1982 - South Island Amateur champion
In 1978 and 1980 he represented New Zealand in the Eisenhower Trophy.
He also represented Waikato numerous times in inter provincial golf.
He joined the professional ranks in the mid 1980’s.
Between the early 1990’s and late 2000’s he was club professional at the three Rotorua clubs – Springfield, Rotorua and Lake View. He also coached at the Rotorua Boys’ High school and took their team (Sam Hunt, Bradley Iles, Mathew Holten and Jordan Rangihika) to the finals of the World Championship in Ireland in 2000 which they won.
For the past few years and, until May this year, he had been coaching at the Rotorua Golf Club.
He was a quiet, reserved and lovely man and we shall miss him.
