David Smail has won his maiden Japan Seniors Tour title – the 23rd Starts Senior Golf Tournament at Starts Kasama Golf Club.
Smail has taken his tally of professional victories to eight after a dominant three-round performance, carding 65, 64, and 66 to finish 18-under-par for a five-shot win.
In his previous two starts on the tour this year, his best finish was a tie for 19th.
He won just under $160 thousand NZD for his efforts.
Ryan Fox continues to prove he’s more than capable of competing against the best golfers in the world on golf’s biggest stages.
After making the cut at the US Open for the first time since 2018, Fox finished in a share of 43rd at five over following rounds of 68, 74, 69, and 74 around a tricked-up LA Country Club, five over for the championship.
He finished 15 shots behind Wyndham Clark, who won his first major championship after a tense back nine battle with Rory McIlroy.
Fox’s final round included four bogeys, a double, and a couple of birdies, which saw him fall 11 places on the leaderboard.
The big-hitting Kiwi has finished in a tie for 26th and 23rd at The Masters and the PGA Championship and will work towards another credible finish at the final major of the year – The Open Championship at Royal Liverpool.
On the Ladies European Tour (LET), Momoka Kobori finished in a share of 22nd at the Amundi German Masters, her best finish since March.
The LET rookie got off to a slow start carding 76 and 72 in the opening two rounds to make the cut on the number. However, she came out firing over the weekend at Golf & Country Club Seddiner See, firing 69 and 68 to finish three under for the tournament.
Kobori also earned 39 points towards her Race to Costa Del Sol ranking, where she’s now 64th.
Fellow Kiwis Hanee Song and Wenyung Keh missed the cut.
On the Clutch Pro Tour, James Hydes and Tyler Wood both teed it up at the Northern Ireland Masters at Clandeboye. Hydes finished even par in a tie for 18th after rounds of 70, 73, and 70, while Wood finished three over after shooting 70, 73, and 73 in equal 30th.
