 |
From L-R: Tina Wilcock and Ian Humble from Ebbett Holden Tauranga, Andrew Gentle, PGA pro Brent McKay, Terry Whitehead, Trudi and Steve Neill, Brent Bourgeois. | In keeping with the remarkable growth of the Holden Scramble this year, 126 players lined up at Te Puke, ensuring that two teams would be proceeding to the Regional Final stage.
Locals Terry Whitehead, Ray Oakes and Andrew Gentle shot nine pars and nine birdies for a 63 - 7.1 - 55.9, to win by less than half a shot from Mount Maunganui visitors Steve and Trudi Neill, and Brent Bourgeois 66 - 9.7 - 56.3.
Ebbett Holden from Tauranga were the sponsoring dealers, and golf professional Brent McKay the PGA host. Brent will be calling on the vast experience of fellow PGA pro Denis (Yogi) Clark to help him out with the second team at the next stage.
Te Puke's Bruce Lydgate Holes Out!
Local Te Puke member Bruce Lygate scored the first hole-in-one for the Holden Scramble this year, by holing out on their second hole with a 7 iron. Bruce tells the story that the shot was straight and true, exactly where he intended it to go, pitched on the front of the green and rolled gently into the bottom of the cup. If there is another version you would need to solicit it from his team-mates Ray Gosling and Dennis Walker. < Back
