Moorhead & Tait Tie at Mangawhai18 Mar 2007
 |
Alex Tait & Grant Moorhead | Tough conditions prevailed in the afternoon of the final round at the Tip Top Ice Cream Mangawhai Pro-Am today, as Taranaki's Grant Moorhead finished with a 73 to total 140 and tie overnight leader Alex Tait from Northland.
Tait's round was also a bit scattered, with 4 birdies, 4 bogeys and a double. His 74 together with the first day 66 also totalled 140. Tait said "It was most pleasing to win my first tournament in New Zealand in my home province, and on a course that I have always considered to be a true test of the game".
Moorhead's equal first placing has moved him to the top of the PGA Order of Merit for the current year, leading Tony Christie by about $1300.
Guy Penrose of Cambridge had the only sub-par round of the afternoon, a two under 70 to total 142 and finish alone in third place. Josh Geary (68 75 = 143) and Douglas Holloway(69 74 = 143) tied 4th
Christchurch's Tony Christie, who scored a four over par 76 on the first day, found himself in the morning field and with the better conditions. He was six under par with a hole to play, but double-bogeyed his last to finish with a 68, a total of 144, and he could afford to sit back and watch some of the leaders blow out and finish behind him, his final placing being 6th alone.
