Day Two Abandoned at Terrace Downs - Mark Brown Wins8 Oct 2006
 |
New PGA Order of Merit leader Mark Brown | The notorious Nor-Wester won the day at the Terrace Downs Pro-Am on the second and final day, with golf balls being blown off the greens, causing the day's play to be abandoned. The event prize-money is therefore paid out on the first round only, giving yet another victory to Wellington's Mark Brown. This win elevates Brown to the top of the PGA Order of Merit, almost 700 points in front of last years winner Grant Moorhead.
Second place in the tournament was shared by Clearwater's Craig Mitchell and North Harbour's Michael Hendry on 79. Craig Owen took out fourth place with the only other score under 80.
To put the conditions into true perspective, the amateurs in the field averaged 22.6 stableford points. The hard luck story of the day would have to be that of Tony Christie, who was one under par with only a couple of holes to play, certain to win the event but the cancellation leaves him in fourth place on the Order of Merit. < Back
