Woodman missed an opportunity to equal the Catalina course record of sixty-five when he uncharacteristically three-putted a short birdie opportunity on the last hole of the tournament, but still ran away the winner with a final round score of sixty-seven.
Woodman managed to comfortably hold off the challenge of the Australian trainees, including his closest challenger, Corey Hale, the 2008 Rich River Champion. Hale did his best to test the 2008 British Trainee Champion with a final-round sixty-nine, but Woodman all but sealed the tournament with a front-nine thirty-two. Nick Davey (Te Puke Golf Club) finished in a tie for 14th position after a closing round even par 72, a credible finish considering an opening round of 76 had him on the back foot and chasing the leaders for the rest of the tournament.
"I was pretty happy to finish in 14th place after shooting an opening 76. The course was in great shape and the weather got up to 30 degrees."
"Ben (Williams - Lochiel Golf Club) caddied for me the last two days which was great. This is a great tournament and on behalf of Ben and me I would like to thank the NZPGA for funding us over here to this event. It has been a great week and I'm sure it will produce great experiences for NZ trainee professionals in the years to come."
