Davey remains tied 21st at Futures31 Oct 2009
New South Welshman Dean Mulley had the best round of the day at the 2009 Crown Lager PGA National Futures Championship, but it was British trainee Guy Woodman who was left holding the overnight lead heading into tomorrow's final round at Catalina Country Club in Batemans Bay. Woodman compiled a solid four-under par round of sixty-eight, while Mulley came within a shot of the Catalina course-record with a sixty-six. On a blustery day on the New South Wales south-coast, the bulk of the best trainees from across Australia found low scoring a challenging proposition. 2008 Champion Damon Welsford struggled with a seventy-eight, while the only contending female Katelyn Must fell back with a seventy-six. Both will be looking to make early inroads into Woodman's lead when they commence the final-round.
Remaining in close proximity to Woodman is three-time South Australian trainee Champion Cody Sherrat and 2008 Rich River Champion Corey Hale from Belmont Golf Club.
Tomorrow Woodman will be looking to upstage the solid play of 2007 and 2008 British representative Jonathon Lupton who had top-ten finishes on both his visits to Australia to become the only English winner of the PGA Futures Championship.
Nick Davey the only New Zealand trainee to make the cut remained in a tie for 21st place after a third round even par 72. Davey will be hoping to produce some of the best form of his career in the last round to enable him to challenge for the Futures Championship title. The last kiwi to win the event was Anthony Doyle (Christchurch Golf Club) in 2003. Davey is eight shots off the lead heading into the last round.
